Cardio & Strenght Training After Hours
I have 3 young children & a demanding job so my opportunities to exercise are limited. I have always been very active, so need to fit it in.
For cardio, my trick is simple-- I start running at between 9:30 & 10PM at night. Obviously it is not ideal, but does allow me a consistent time (after kids are in bed) when I can get out and get a good cardio workout in.
For strength, my "solution" is a little more creative. I have a small bench set up in a room in our basement where the dogs sleep. When it is time to put them to bed, I do one set of lower weight chest flies or arm curls to failure (as many reps as possible.) I do this every night. It takes < 5 minutes but over the course of 6 months of doing this, I am consistently getting stronger-- measured through the number of reps I can complete. Again this is a simple way to make a small amount of strength training a part of my daily life. It's not a 2 hour session in the weight room, but all things considered, it's not a bad way to include this work out. I actually look forward to the challenge each night of seeing if I can do more.

Fitting it in
Ideal is whatever works for you and your lifestyle. Do your dogs run with you?
